What Encourages People to Start a Business?

It’s not a complicated process to start a business. But running it is. At least, that’s the case in Poland.

Every business, even the most promising one, faces huge problems in the initial phase: huge costs. The biggest burden for a starting entrepreneur is, of course, social security, and there are other costs as well, such as renting premises, paying an accounting office, and taxes. For a business to prosper, huge investments in marketing, fixed assets, and much, much more are also needed. As a result, many companies are unable to survive on the market for even a year.

What is a reason to start a business?

But is that a reason not to start a business? Definitely not, but it has to be a well-considered decision. Starting any business without financial resources is doomed to failure.

There are many niches on the market just waiting to be filled. People have always faced problems they couldn’t solve. And the role of an entrepreneur is to solve these problems.

Going back to the question in the title: what encourages us to start a business? From my perspective, it is above all independence. You act according to your own plan. You are responsible for everything that concerns your company. For me, a company is a great opportunity for self-realization.

People who don’t like having bosses also start companies. There are many people who feel very uncomfortable following orders from superiors. Especially if the order is given in an impolite or unpleasant way.

We also start new businesses because we like competition. Doing business means constant competition with the market and with yourself. We have to be fascinated by it. And usually we are.

Many people start their own business because they have a lot of ideas. They are not able to realize them in their full-time job because we have to do what our boss expects from us, and he is rarely open to our ideas. A business of our own gives us that opportunity.

Not only to be rich

We also start a business for other reasons: we want to be rich. But the dream of wealth often takes a back seat when we start our business, acquire customers, pay bills, etc. Then we realize that we have little left (or even have to contribute to it). And then we put off the dream of wealth until some unspecified future. That’s why I put this argument further down on my list.

We also run a business because we like solving problems, organizing our work and that of others, and we are usually flexible in our actions. People with these characteristics will feel like a fish in water in their business. The uncertainty of tomorrow is something that can drive us to act. I can be an example of this. I am one of the few people who like Mondays because it is the beginning of a new week and the hope that it will bring something interesting.

It may seem a bit masochistic that we like to face problems. But that’s not entirely true. We like to fight them because it makes us feel needed. We want to solve problems and we like the feeling of finding a solution. The job of a car mechanic is a good example. It is a profession where there are always problems. In fact, that is what the profession is all about: solving problems. And if a mechanic didn’t like it, he probably wouldn’t do it.

And if you run your own business, what motivates you to do business?
