Thinking About Wealth. Why Change is Needed?

I don’t know how it is for others, but thinking about wealth changes for me as time goes by. Priorities change and attitudes towards life change. What is the reason for this?

Each of us wants to be a millionaire. We are looking for an idea of ourselves. At a young age, with tremendous energy in us, we take various more or less risky actions that could bring us closer to our dream wealth.

Often, to achieve this goal, we spend a lot of time. We spend a lot of time at work, at the expense of family, friends, acquaintances. All in order to get the expected amount in the account.

However, life plays tricks and things don’t always go as we would like. There are various unexpected events, misguided investments, illnesses, crises and other situations that move us away from achieving our goal. It also happens that they even demotivate us to take excessive risks. Especially when we don’t see results.

Thinking about the wealth is changing

We go years after looking for a million. And at some point we reach about half of our life. We take stock of what we have succeeded and what we have failed at, and at what cost we achieved it. And there comes a moment when we have to make a rather important decision: do we keep chasing this bunny and believe that our dream will come true and we will be rich, or do we accept that we have not succeeded and are unlikely to succeed and just slow down? Why is this important?

It is important because time is not made of rubber. And while when we are young we don’t notice time slipping away, and old age seems very far away, we can very actively engage in various activities. Once we notice that we have less time left and come to the conclusion that it will not really do us any good, that we will reach that goal in many, for example, 65 years, we consider the option of slowing down the pace of our lives. We no longer think about some distant future. We try to live in the here and now.

Importantly, we begin to see the value of family, friends. We enjoy smaller successes and appreciate each of them. This causes our lives to continue to make sense, even though that million in our bank account we don’t have and are unlikely to have. That’s why changing thinking about wealth is so important.

Interestingly, when we slow down the pace of life, it becomes much more interesting. This is because we get rid of the pressure and frustration of not being able to achieve a certain goal or dream.

Sometimes it’s the case that our goals exceed our capabilities and that’s why we’re not happy. And what is life about if not happiness?

Young people are convinced that the guarantee of happiness is wealth. And this is not true, and some only discover the value of these words years later, that money does not give happiness. Sure, they make many things easier, allow us to realize many goals, passions. But if we pursue them at all costs, after years we realize that we are with nothing.

It is very difficult to convince young people who live by ideals and think they are smarter than their elders to think this way. It may be so, they are more encompassed in life, graduated from better schools, live in better times. But it is the elders who have something more valuable to draw from: life wisdom. And where does it come from? From experience.

You cannot buy experience

Experience is something that cannot be bought. It comes with time and comes from the failures we have suffered in life. It is impossible to rush the acquisition of experience. Especially if, for example, we are on an upward wave.

Experience is important in life. It comes in very handy for us in stressful, non-obvious, new situations. Then experience and calmness can be the key to survival. Why?

It all stems from the fact that our fast-paced lives and constant pressure for a result cause a lot of stress in us. Not infrequently they lead to depression. And all because we can’t realize our dreams or unrealistic goals.

The conclusion? Let’s slow down a bit. Look at your life problems from a different perspective. Look around you and think about what makes you happy. What is important? Is all that you want to achieve worth sacrificing family, friends and a life of constant stress?
